What is WAMD instant payment in Kuwait?
WAMD is Kuwait’s instant payment service launched under the supervision of the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) and implemented via KNET .
Key Features:
- Link your mobile phone number (as an “alias”) to a bank account, so people can send you money using just your mobile number rather than full account details.
- Send and receive funds instantly — 24/7 (including weekends and holidays).
- Also supports requesting money (i.e., you can send someone a payment request).
How to Use WAMD
Here’s how you typically activate and use the service:
- In your bank’s mobile banking app, locate the WAMD service (sometimes under “Transfers” or “Services”).
- Choose the account you wish to link to your mobile number for WAMD.
- Register your mobile number as the alias for WAMD (must match what the bank has on file).
- To send money, you select the recipient by their mobile number (if they are registered) or you may also send even if they’re not yet registered (depending on bank) — amount is transferred instantly once confirmed.
- To request money, you send a request to someone (both parties must be registered). The request typically expires after a set time (e.g., 24 hours).
